Effective Practice Case Studies

These 18 case studies have been chosen as examples of effective practice in the provision and delivery of ESOL in Scotland. Whilst they do not offer a comprehensive picture of ESOL in Scotland, they demonstrate provision and delivery across three main sectors - colleges, the voluntary sector and local authorities - and in three important contexts:

We would like to thank all those individuals and organisations who were involved in the content and production of these case studies. We would especially like to thank the Case Studies Project Team - Alan Elder, Carol Irvine and Catherine Rice and the Advisory Group which consisted of Jennifer MacDougall (SQA), Colin Buchanan (Scotland's Colleges), Susan Walls (Learning Link Scotland) and Andrew Brawley (HMIe).

All case studies include a pdf document that you can download and print off, and some include videos as well. You can view an extended introduction to these case studies (pdf, 171Kb).

A key has been included to help identify the types of case study:

F = Family ESOL; WE = ESOL for the work/employability; SEM = engaging settled ethnic minorities; AS,R = working with asylum seekers and refugee; Video = case study includes a video
