The Further Education sector as a whole is funded by the Scottish Funding Council, acting on behalf of the Scottish Ministers. Overall strategic direction for the sector is provided by the Lifelong Learning Department (LLD) of the Scottish Government. LLD liaises closely with bodies such as Colleges Scotland and the College Development Network (formerly Scotland's Colleges but now rebranded since December 2012).
