Professional Development
The ESOL strategy aspires to a full professional ESOL workforce with recognised career structures. ESOL practitioners need to show knowledge, technical competence and expertise at a level consistent with effective programme delivery.
A working group, under the direction of the National ESOL Panel, developed a structured professional development pathway for ESOL practitioners. Read more information about the work of this group.
Are you interested in courses or events to take forward your own or colleagues' professional development? Browse or search our Directory of professional development opportunities to see what is available.
In September 2008, SQA and the Scottish Government jointly launched the professional development award, Introduction to Tutoring ESOL. Please click here (Word, 45Kb) to find out more about this qualification.
If you would like to add to, or update, the information in the Directory, please submit the details to this email address.
We seek to encourage the adoption and sharing of best practice for teaching adult ESOL learners. You will find useful databank resources which you can download, as well as sources of advice and guidance. We welcome additions to this collection, so please contact us if you have anything you would like to share.
